Directions
…to the Roanoke Higher Education Center (RHEC):
The Roanoke Higher Education Center (RHEC) is housed in the renovated Norfolk & Western Railroad building at 108 North Jefferson Street, adjacent to the Hotel Roanoke. The main entrance, closest to parking, is on the west side of the building, facing Jordan Alley. The Jefferson Street and Centre Avenue entrances are closed to visitors and students.
From 581/US Rte. 220 heading south, take Exit 5. Turn right onto Wells Avenue. Proceed past Hotel Roanoke and cross North Jefferson Street. Take the next left onto Jordan Alley; the Roanoke Higher Education Center is the second building on the left before arriving at the Gainsboro parking garage.
From 581/US Rte. 220 heading north, take Exit 4E. Immediately turn right onto Williamson Road. Proceed south to Wells Avenue, and turn right onto Wells Avenue. Continue past the Hotel Roanoke, crossing over North Jefferson Street, and take the next left onto Jordan Alley. RHEC is the second building on the left before arriving at the Gainsboro parking garage.
…to the Claude Moore Education Complex (CMEC):
The Claude Moore Education Complex (CMEC) is located across Jordan Alley from the Roanoke Higher Education Center, connected via a brick walkway. It is located at 109 North Henry Street.
Visitor and Event Parking
Visitor and event parking is located in areas 1 and 3 on the map. A parking fee or monthly parking permit is required. Lots are owned by the City of Roanoke and operated by PARK Roanoke.
Student parking is available in lots 2, 4, and 5.
Paid parking is available as follows:
(1) Higher Ed. Center Lot. This is “pay by space” parking. Payment is required at electronic parking meter kiosks by cash or card prior to entering the building.
Parking Rates:
$1 per half hour; max $8 per day
$3 flat rate when parking 4pm – 5am
$3 flat rate for Saturday & Sunday
(3) Gainsboro Garage (use entrance on Centre Ave). Payment accepted upon exit.
Parking Rate:
$1 per half hour; max $8 per day
Parking validation for tickets issued from the Gainsboro Garage is available upon request for day rental clients, who will be billed for validated parking related to their event.
Additional Parking Information
Monthly Parking: Monthly parking permits are available for the Higher Ed. Center Lot and the Gainsboro Garage during the day. Parking permits may be purchased from PARK Roanoke.
Towing Information: For towing issues, contact Mitchell’s Towing and Recovery at 540-309-3596.
Parking on the Street: Students and staff may park on city streets in designated areas for limited time periods. Read parking-related signs carefully; parking regulations are strictly enforced.
Parking Safety: Parking garages and lots are well-lit and patrolled frequently by RHEC security. Security is available upon request to accompany and/or shuttle you to your vehicle and may be reached at 540-767-6001. Blue light emergency call stations are installed at student lots 2 and 4 and in the Central Plaza between lots 1 and 5.
Assistance for Persons with Handicaps/Disabilities: RHEC’s primary entrance at Jordan Alley is ADA-compliant. Designated accessible parking spaces are in the Higher Ed Center Lot 1 and student lot 2. Both Valley Metro and Radar provide public transportation for those who require assistance.
