Summer Math Camp Assistant Counselor (Temporary, Part-Time)

The Roanoke Higher Education Center is hiring creative and energetic Assistant Counselors for the afternoon portion of our Summer Math Camp. Afternoon staff will focus on enrichment, leading activities that extend learning through fun and interactive experiences.

Position Details:

• Type: Temporary, part-time
• Location: Roanoke Higher Education Center
• Camp Dates: July 7th – July 31st, 2025
• Hourly Rate: $16.00/hour
• Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
• Training: Paid, mandatory training in June

Responsibilities:

• Assist or lead enrichment activities such as STEM projects, arts and crafts, and outdoor games
• Help manage transitions between activities and maintain student engagement
• Ensure a safe, supportive, and fun afternoon environment
• Monitor camper behavior and support positive peer interactions
• Collaborate with camp staff to deliver a well-rounded camp experience

Qualifications:

• Enthusiastic and positive attitude with a passion for working with kids
• Creativity and energy for leading engaging activities
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Organized, responsible, and able to take initiative
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)

Preferred Experience:

• Prior experience in camps, youth programs, or activity leadership
• Babysitting or informal experience with children is a plus

Additional requirements:

• Must be available for all four weeks of camp
• Must pass a background check
