Mary Baldwin University
At Mary Baldwin University, every student finds a world of possibility. Backed up by 175 years of belief in the transformative power of the liberal arts and sciences, they dare to make a difference, engage in service to their communities, and inspire change in our backyard and around the world. What we teach, they live.
Our story began in an era when the education of women was an unconventional notion. But an unshakeable belief in the capacity of women to learn and to lead sparked the creation of Augusta Female Seminary in 1842 . It’s no accident that today Mary Baldwin University is uniquely positioned to take advantage of its historic residential women’s college while embracing programs that provide the extensive opportunities of a small, co-ed university.
Setting the standard for innovation with a purpose, today Mary Baldwin is an exceptionally diverse institution with a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs for both women and men in locations throughout Virginia.
Backed by 40 years of success in educating students with jobs, families, and other responsibilities, Baldwin Online and Adult Programs offers busy men and women three highly respected undergraduate degrees: bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, and bachelor of social work. Mary Baldwin also offers two graduate degrees through the College of Education: a master of arts in teaching with initial licensure and a master of education with several different tracks. Graduate and undergraduate certificates are available.
Mary Baldwin was one of the charter members of the Roanoke Higher Education Center in 2000 when the center opened. Today we continue that close partnership.
