About the Program
UVA | Certificate | Online – This certificate is designed for teachers of students in grades 4-12, those beyond the primary years and for whom instruction becomes more content-oriented. We surveyed school districts for their needs and the response was “assistance for teachers of grades 4 and above students.” Hence, the certificate was designed.

Courses & Requirements
15 Credit Hours | Course Checklist
The Adolescent Literacy certificate consists of 15 hours of coursework, focused on what teachers need to know about literacy development, the word-level and text-level information they need to build their curriculum beyond the grade-level textbook to include writing, and how to motivate students for whom learning has become uninteresting. Course topics include adolescent literacy, word study, writing across the curriculum, and literature for young adults.

K-12 Educator Discount Rate – $335 in-state; $750 out-of-state, including fees
Non-K-12 Educator Online Tuition, (same in-state and out-of-state):
$535/credit hour including fees

How to Apply
To apply, students must complete the online certificate application and submit letters of recommendation and transcripts of previous degree work for post-Master’s applicants.
