About the Program

UVA | Certificate | Online – The UVA School of Continuing and Professional Studies’ online graduate Certificate in Cyber Security Management provides managers and information technology professionals with the essential tools needed to identify cyber threats; devise appropriate defense strategies; develop policy; plan and conduct security assessments; and understand the ethical, legal, and regulatory environment as it relates to operating in cyberspace.

The Certificate in Cyber Security Management is ideal for:

  • managers assigned to or expecting to be assigned cyber security duties
  • information technology professionals seeking a cyber security management role
  • cyber security professionals seeking additional credentials and professional development

Depending on their backgrounds, students have the flexibility to take coursework to augment their current expertise and gain exposure to subject matter included on critical certifying exams such as CISSP and CISM.

Courses are mapped to the National Cybersecurity Workforce Framework, as part of the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Careers and Studies.

Students earning a graduate Certificate in Cyber Security Management are eligible to apply and transfer their credits into the Syracuse University Master of Science in Information Management program through a graduate transfer partnership.

The graduate Certificate in Cyber Security Management requires you to complete 6 courses (4 required, 2 electives). Courses are mapped to the National Cybersecurity Workforce Framework, as part of the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Careers and Studies. Required courses focus on the Oversight and Development category within the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) framework. Elective courses allow students to expand their knowledge of more technical content found within the Protect and Defend, Securely Provision or Investigate categories of the NICE framework.

How to Apply

Individuals must apply to and be offered admission to earn a certificate. A maximum of two courses that will count toward satisfying the requirements for the certificate may be taken prior to admission.
