About the Program

MBU | Bachelor’s | Hybrid – The liberal arts and educational studies major (LAES) is designed for the student who is pursuing a career as an elementary or special education teacher. Our course requirements are carefully aligned with requirements for teacher licensure in the state of Virginia with an endorsement in either elementary education or special education. By combining a strong foundation of content knowledge in four core academic disciplines (English, math, science and social studies) with advanced coursework in professional studies, Mary Baldwin University students are well prepared for successful teaching experiences.

This demanding, yet efficient, major ensures that students master the optimum combination of major, general education, and teacher licensure requirements. When students complete the major course sequence and meet program admission requirements, they are eligible for a student teaching placement in their final semester. Fast-track your liberal arts and educational studies degree online.

Most courses required for our liberal arts and educational studies major with emphasis in elementary or special education can be completed online through the university’s innovative Baldwin Online and Adult Programs. Just like in-person classes, the Blackboard-interface program emphasizes the development of strong conceptual skills in tandem with practical applications.
