Endorsement in Teaching English as a Second Language
About the Program
VT | Teacher Certification | On-site – Endorsement in English as a Second Language (ESL) education requires 24 credit hours of coursework, some of which may have been already completed during initial licensure. Practicing teachers and current students pursuing licensure in other content areas are eligible for this option. Current SOE students pursuing licensure in another content area must work with English Language Learners (ELLs) during at least one class period each day that they are in the schools for both their Field Studies and Student Teaching.
Four graduate classes are offered where students are placed in Roanoke City Public Schools for both early field studies and student teaching. In addition, students will complete 20 hours of service-learning at the Stonewall Jackson Middle School after-school program.
