How many items may I check out, and for how long?

 

Students

  • Item limit: 5
  • Loan period: 8 weeks + 2 renewals of 8 weeks

Faculty & Staff

  • Item limit: 10
  • Loan period: 12 weeks + 2 renewals of 12 weeks

Community Borrowers

  • Item limit: 5
  • Loan period: 4 weeks + 2 renewals of 4 weeks

The RHEC Library does not charge overdue fines. When an overdue item has been overdue for 29 days it is assumed lost, and a Lost Item fee is added to the patron’s account. Lost item fees are removed once the item has been returned.

Reserves

Items on reserve may be checked out for 2 hours, and are library use only. Learn more about course reserves.
 

How can I request an item that’s already checked out?

You may place a hold request for an item in OneSearch. You must be logged in to place a request. When the item is returned, you will receive a notice informing you that it is available.
 

How can I renew materials?

If there are no hold requests for a checked out item, it will automatically renew up to two times. Patrons will receive a notice that an item has successfully been renewed. Materials may also be manually renewed by logging into your account in OneSearch. Items that have reached their renewal limit or have been requested by another patron may not be renewed.
 

Where can I return materials?

Materials may be returned to the library’s circulation desk, or via the book return to the right of the library’s entrance. They may also be returned via mail, at:

How do I resolve a Lost Item fee?

Items that are overdue for more than 29 days are considered lost, and a Lost Item fee is added to the patron’s account. Borrowing privileges are also blocked. The Lost Item fee, as well as the block, will automatically be removed once the item is returned.

If you are unable to return an item, you must pay the Lost Item fee to restore borrowing privileges. The fee may be paid at the library’s circulation desk via cash, check, credit/debit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. If you need to pay a fee remotely, please contact us to arrange payment.
