Writing Center

Study Skills
SSC tutoring program provides free course-specific and topic-based tutoring services to all RHEC partner institution students. Our highly trained tutors strive to make your tutoring experience productive and informative.

 Writing papers and resumes can be challenging and the Writing Center is here to help. Bring in your completed or unfinished work and we’ll look it over and guide you to success.  SSC strives to promote life-long learning and empower students to become successful in their career paths

Monday: 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Tuesday-Wednesday: 8:00 am – 5:30 pm
Thursday-Friday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Tutoring is available during the day, evenings, and on Saturday.

How to Register for Our Services

Student Success Center services are free for students of our Member Institutions.

Member Student Registration

For individuals not affiliated with the Roanoke Higher Education Center, in-person tutoring services are available for a fee.

What to Expect

All of our services are free to students taking classes with our Member Institutions. For most of our sessions, you will need to make an appointment. Our tutors will help you:

  • Identify your learning preferences and help you with study strategies and content learning
  • Guide you through the learning process using study practice techniques to help you understand the material
  • Help you identify a study plan that suits your goals and sets you up for success

Our tutors are here for academic support and assistance of the highest quality and will not complete homework, quizzes, exams, or other work for students.

Scheduling

We generally recommend that our students meet with tutors 1-2 times per week. Most tutoring sessions are scheduled for 60 minutes. We recommend making a consistent tutoring schedule and meeting at the same time every week.

If for some reason there is a need for a schedule change, please contact your tutor via Accudemia or call the Student Success Center office.
