What do our tutors and coaches do?
SSC tutors and coaches are expected to: 1. Listen attentively and carefully, 2. Help students identify difficulties they are having and develop strategies for addressing them, 3. Help students identify and use the strengths they have to master difficult material, 4. Work with students to master their genuine ability to solve problems and arrive at independent solutions, 5. Provide time for students to work independently during each session, 6. Help students learn successful study strategies, 7. Decline to work with unprepared students and ask that they review material before returning. Tutors and coaches may assist with general learning skills such as reading, note-taking, and study skills.
What don’t our tutors and coaches do?
Tutors do not give answers or do homework or graded assignments for students. Tutors are not able to offer last-minute help to students who have not read their texts, kept current with the course material, or have not put forth a genuine effort on their own. Tutors do not know everything pertaining to the courses they tutor. Academic coaches do not have all of the answers – they guide you.
