National External Diploma Program (NEDP)
About the Program
This is an alternative pathway to earning an adult high school diploma, aimed at adults (age 18+) who already have some academic and life experience and prefer a competency-based model over traditional timed tests.
The NEDP allows learners to work at their own pace and submit portfolio tasks that demonstrate mastery of real-world academic and workplace competencies (rather than just sit for timed exams).
Typically, the program runs for 6 to 9 months in this location.
Why it matters:
For adults who are more comfortable with applied assignments rather than traditional test-taking, the NEDP offers a flexible, self-paced route to a diploma.
Because it emphasizes real-life contexts (workplace readiness, critical thinking, writing, etc.), it can be a strong springboard into employment or further education.
It acknowledges and builds on prior learning and life experience rather than requiring a fresh start in a full traditional high school curriculum.
