About the Program

Y.A.L.E. (Young Adult Life Enhancement) assists court-involved youth with reintegrating into the community as engaged citizens. The program provides case management, mentoring, educational interventions, service-learning, Customer Service Certification, career exploration, job shadowing, paid and volunteer work experience, follow-up services, and expungement and diversion services.

Students will be enrolled in the program between 6-12 months on average and participate in life skills, job readiness, and/or customer service classes on a daily basis.

Courses & Requirements

All participants will complete the 40 hours of life skills training using the Thinking for a Change (T4C) curriculum and the National Retail Federation Foundation’s 40 hour Customer Service certification curriculum as part of their job readiness training. Students will have access to additional occupational training, including plumbing, electrical and construction; healthcare, commercial driving, welding, and food service.

TAP’s programs are designed to offer career and educational opportunities with low-income people and their families in mind. While programs can vary, the strategies and resources TAP programs collectively offer cover a wide range of needs:

  • Job placement partnerships with local employers

How to Apply

Potential clients must be 14 to 24 years of age who committed a juvenile offense after the age of 14 and before the age of 24. Youth with an adult charge are ineligible. Y.A.L.E. is located at the Roanoke Higher Education Center, 108 N. Jefferson St., Suite 513, Roanoke, VA 24016. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
