Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery is only available to faculty, staff and students of the Roanoke Higher Education Center. You must have a valid RHEC Library Card on file in order to use either of these services.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Guidelines

  • Interlibrary loan is available for books and articles not owned by the RHEC Library.
  • There is no limit to the number of books or articles that you can request and the service is free of charge for RHEC students, faculty and staff.
  • Textbooks may not be requested. A photocopy of a single chapter may be requested, as long as your use does not violate fair use standards.
  • Please allow 3-5 days for receipt of most ILL loans and 1-2 days for photocopies.
  • All requests should be submitted through ILLiad, or by filling out a paper request form at the library's front desk.
  • Notification of receipt of materials is provided by email and telephone. Books are held at the Library Circulation Desk for pickup.
  • Books not picked up will be returned to the lending library on the due date.
  • Due dates are set by the lending library.
  • To request a renewal, contact the RHEC library at 540-767-6011 at least 4 days before the due date.
  • Journal articles are yours to keep; it is not necessary to return them.
  • There is a $1.00 per day fine charged for overdue ILL materials.

Document Delivery Guidelines

  • Document Delivery is available to patrons outside of the RHEC building, who need access to journal articles owned by the RHEC Library.
  • To use this service, request an article the same way you would for ILL. If we own the article, we will deliver it to you electronically.

Interlibrary Loan is a privilege. Failure to comply with ILL conditions or policies can be costly for both you and RHEC Library. Please do not jeopardize our borrowing privileges or your own by returning books late or damaging borrowed materials.

Copyright - The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. The RHEC Library reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve a violation of copyright law.
