Thinking about taking classes through the center, but unsure where to begin?

Here are the steps to becoming a student at the Roanoke Higher Education Center, whether you’re returning to school, attending college for the first time, going for a degree, or just signing up for a training class.

Find a program that interests you

We host classes for more than 150 degrees and training programs offered by multiple member institutions. So you can take classes directly from accredited colleges and universities throughout Virginia and beyond, without ever needing to leave the Roanoke area.

 

Choose a format that fits your schedule and lifestyle

Depending on the program you choose, you can take classes here at the center, online, or some combination of the two. Some programs come in more than one format, and you can find a format that’s right for you:

  • On-Site: Classes held in our Roanoke Higher Education Center facilities
  • Online Synchronous: Classes online, taking place at specific days and times
  • Online Asynchronous: Classes online, with lectures and assignments you can access at any time
  • Hybrid: A combination of online and on-site classes and assignments

 

Research Financing Options

There are often several types of scholarships, grants, loans, and other financial aid options available through your program’s sponsoring member institution. Many schools also offer payment plans to help break costs into smaller installments. Contact your institution’s financial aid office for more information on what may be available to you, and review the general tips and advice on our financial aid page.

 

Enroll in a Program

When you’re ready to enroll, contact the admissions representative listed on your program’s page. They’ll help you apply for admission at the sponsoring institution and register for classes. They can also answer your questions about what courses to take, transfer credits, and other logistics. Many of our member institutions offer information sessions where you can talk to someone and get more details about their programs.
