Summer Math Camp Lead Instructor (Temporary, Part-Time)

Are you passionate about math and love working with young learners? The Roanoke Higher Education Center is looking for dynamic, engaging, and experienced lead instructors for a 4-week Summer Math Camp, designed for rising 3rd graders. As a lead instructor, you’ll help guide students through an exciting and enriching math curriculum, ensuring that learning is fun, interactive, and impactful.

Position Details:

  • Type: Temporary, part-time
  • Location: Roanoke Higher Education Center
  • Dates: July 7th – July 21st, 2025
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., with the possibility of additional hours up to 29.5 hours per week
  • Pay: $22.00/hour (training time is also paid)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a group of campers through a structured, engaging math curriculum
  • Present math concepts to students in both individual and group settings
  • Administer pre- and post-assessments to track student progress
  • Supervise, guide, and engage students throughout the camp day
  • Ensure the safety (physicial, emotional, intellectual) of all campers
  • Maintain an inclusive, positive, and encouraging camp environment
  • Collaborate with fellow instructors and counselors to plan daily activities
  • Participate in training and staff meetings
  • Keep accurate records of student progress, attendance, and any other relevant information
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain before camp)

Qualifications:

  • A degree in math education (preferred) or enrollment in a math education program
  • Experience in teaching or tutoring math, particularly in a summer camp or informal educational setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage and inspire young learners in a fun, supportive way
  • Knowledge of basic Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision
  • Professionalism, patience, flexibility, and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Previous summer camp experience or first aid training is a plus

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be available for all four weeks of camp and required training sessions in June
  • Background check required
