Library Media Specialist Add-on Endorsement
About the Program
UVA | Teacher Certification | Online – The University of Virginia’s College at Wise (UVa-Wise), in partnership with UVa’s Curry School of Education, will offer a Virginia Department of Education approved library media program leading to an add-on endorsement in Library Media PreK-12. The program consists of 15 undergraduate credits from UVa-Wise, plus an additional 12 graduate credits from the Curry School of Education (only 9 credit hours if the technology standards have been met). This program is designed for licensed teachers in Virginia who wish to add an endorsement as a school library media specialist. Qualified applicants will be admitted to the UVa-Wise endorsement program after review and approval of their credentials.

Students in this add-on library media endorsement program will learn the best and most effective ways to manage a school library. They will become skilled in using instructional software and hardware as well as producing instructional materials to supplement classroom instruction. Program completers will know how to select appropriate print-media materials for children and young adults and how to organize and process these materials. They will learn how to serve as a resource person for students and professional staff in curriculum design and classroom instruction while effectively managing the school’s library-media center. Most importantly, program completers will know and understand ways to get children excited about books and other forms of media.

UVa Tuition & Fees:
K-12 Educator Discount Rate – $335/credit hour, in-state; $750/credit hour, out-of-state, including fees
Non-K-12 Educator Online Tuition, (same in-state and out-of-state):
$535/credit hour including fees
UVa-Wise Tuition & Fees:
$225/credit hour, instate; $921/credit hour, out-of-state, including fees

Contact Linda Linnartz for an application fee and for additional program information. The application includes 2 letters of recommendation, a statement of why the individual wants the endorsement, copies of transcripts and a copy of the student’s current Virginia teaching license.
